Inspired by the wine-making regions of Europe, this West Loop wine bar is the sister restaurant to neighboring Blackbird. The main attraction here is the wine list, featuring 130 reasonably priced selections, 30 of which are available by the glass. Avec also offers a diverse menu of Basque cuisine, created by chef Koren Grieveson, that includes sharable small plates, such as chorizo-stuffed dates, and large plates like the wood-oven roasted pork shoulder. Designed by Thomas Schlesser, the award-winning dining room is constructed almost entirely of warm cedar and hickory, with five communal tables and a stainless-steel bar overlooking the kitchen.
The 58-seat restaurant does not accept reservations, so regulars recommend arriving early or heading down the street to Jefferson Tap & Grille for pre-dinner drinks while you wait.
