The Green Mill
Said to be the country’s oldest jazz club, The Green Mill has been a Chicago landmark for more than a century. Beneath its sparkling green neon sign, patrons can sit in the same booth where Al Capone and his henchmen frequently held court watching both doors, prepared to retreat to the hidden room beneath the bar. Of course, visitors often find it hard to stay seated once the sizzling jazz performances commence. Having hosted such legendary artists as Von Freeman, Franz Jackson and Kurt Elling, Green Mill patrons tend to be genre aficionados who enjoy the shows in respectful silence.

Earlier performances have a more manageable crowd and a cheaper cover, so you can easily snag a table and then indulge in a couple of extra cocktails.
