Though less ornate than some of Charleston’s other top inns, the Restoration on King epitomizes Southern hospitality: fresh muffins, fruit, and bagels are delivered each morning in a picnic basket, wine and cheese are served in the lobby, and the nightly turndown service leaves behind cold milk and chocolate chip cookies from the Charleston Cookie Company. Following a complete overhaul in 2011, the red brick building—set on one of Charleston's main streets—is equally as notable as the at-your-service staffers; the 16 suites have spacious terraces and exposed-brick walls for an unexpected urban edge among downtown's 19th-century buildings. And the hotel’s location, right in the heart of the historic district, means that City Market, the colorful homes of Rainbow Row, and Battery Park are just short, cobblestoned walks away.
Room to Book:
Farthest from the street, Room 307 is approximately 800 square feet and has a 350-square-foot garden patio.
Insider Tip:
Come evening, head to the rooftop bar at the nearby Vendue Inn for sunset views of Fort Sumter and the Ravenel Bridge.
