Villa Fortuny Apartments

Villa Fortuny Apartments

Map
Via Mariano Fortuny, just north of Piazza del Popolo, Rome, 00187

Large apartments for up to eight people from $850 per night; small apartments for two people from $190 per night; three-night minimum. Book through Roman Reference agency. Agents placing out-of-town VIP’s in short- or long-term apartment rentals have this property well marked in their Rolodexes. Villa Fortuny has one of the great secret-Rome locations; it’s nestled directly beneath the greenery of Villa Borghese inside a gated property just north of Piazza del Popolo. The villa itself is more than 300 years old, but the apartments were renovated in the 1970’s and 80’s, when the living spaces were opened up considerably and decorated with works from the owner’s collection of modern art. The feeling of each whitewashed unit is exclusive and contemporary, and all have some kind of private terrace or patio.

Apartment to Book: The best apartment “A,” or no. 186 on the Web site, is where Mel Gibson stayed during the filming of The Passion of the Christ. It can sleep up to eight (in a comfortable combination of bedrooms, daybeds, and sofa beds), and has a magnificent terrace overlooking all of Rome.
