Things to do in Carmel

Art and history lovers will not run out of things to do in Carmel. The historic importance of this region in the California mission system is the main focus at the Carmel Mission, a complex that houses the Basilica Church and five museums that showcase Spanish Colonial art, objects from the collection of Monterey’s prominent Munrás family, and other artifacts. The town also boasts nearly 100 art galleries, where collectors and enthusiasts alike can admire the work of local and international artists, including paintings, sculptures, photographs and vintage collectibles. And if you’re an architecture buff, don’t miss Frank Lloyd Wright’s Walker residence. It’s a private home, but you can catch a glimpse from the Scenic Road.

Wine tasting is one of the most popular things to do in Carmel. Sip your way through local varietals; stopping at wineries like Silvestri Vineyards and Caraccioli Cellars, wine bars like Vino Napoli and tasting rooms such as Blair Wines.

Carmel Beach is perfect for swimming, surfing, or taking long walks. If you’re lucky, you’ll see spot lions, dolphins and even whales swimming by. And for a shopping spree, head to the area around Ocean Avenue and Junipero Street, where you’ll find everything from family-operated jewelry stores, eco-friendly beauty products, candy, antiques and designer clothes and accessories.
