The Africa Café
Housed in a restored 18th-century townhouse, the Africa Café provides a culinary tour of the continent, from Ethiopia and Algeria to Malawi and South Africa. Spread over three floors, the seven dining rooms are decorated with colorful wall murals, traditional masks, and simple wooden tables, where “community feasts” are served on bright ceramic dishes crafted by the restaurant’s sister company, Africa Café Ceramics. The all-you-can-eat menu changes seasonally but may include Zanzibarian cumin-spiced lentil dip, Botswanian seswaa masala (lamb curry), and South African ithanga (pumpkin-cinnamon fritters). During the meal, the multicultural servers play instruments and sing in their native languages.
Before dinner, stop in for a wine tasting next door at Signal Hill, the only urban winery in Cape Town.
