Built by a wealthy Boston stockbroker in 1914, the Chatham Bars Inn was the first luxury hotel on Cape Cod and is still its most exclusive address. A recent $100 million renovation made it even more desirable. Historic elements (leaded-glass windows, coffered ceilings) were preserved, while a luxurious spa with whirlpool tubs was added and the clapboard cottages were rebuilt from scratch. The two signature restaurants serve seafood sourced from local fishermen and vegetables grown in the hotel’s own garden. The best part of staying at the Chatham Bars Inn: sitting on the wide porch and gazing out at the private white-sand beach and the ocean beyond.
