More than anything, Umiak Outdoor Outfitters wants to get people moving — either paddling on Vermont’s rivers and lakes in the summer or gliding through the winter snow on skis, snowshoes, or dog sleds. Renters can take part independently or part of guided tour, such as the kayak fishing tour, moonlight cabin ski tour, or Ben and Jerry’s snowshoe tour, which tramps around the factory’s surrounding woodlands before going inside for a tasting. The branch on Burlington’s North Beach does especially brisk business in the summer, but also supplies equipment for trekking the adjacent lakeside bike path when covered in snow.
