Jack the Horse Tavern

66 Hicks St.,
United States,

Graduating at the top of his class from French Culinary Institute, chef Tim Oltmans brings his skills to this upscale Brooklyn Heights restaurant serving Euro-influenced, new American cuisine like pan-roasted diver scallops, roasted pork chop with celery-root purée, and mac and cheese with smoked gouda. The interior remains old American, with a tin-paneled ceiling, exposed brick, wood-plank floor, and wall of antique clocks. The small bar area in front pours East Coast drafts and mixes old-timey cocktails, such as the "Old-Fashioned" and "Tom Collins," for its Ralph Lauren-wearing clientele. Tuesdays and Wednesdays feature a three-course, prix fixe menu.
