British Virgin Islands
Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina
The name may suggest otherwise, but a trip here hardly constitutes roughing it. Once a pit stop for European explorers, the 230-acre island has been virtually uninhabited for decades—until last year, when the luxe property opened its doors. Accessible only by ferry (a seven-minute ride from Tortola), the 52-room resort is the only destination on the entire island—and it has plenty to offer. Guests will find spacious ocean-view villas, with private infinity pools and wraparound verandas; butler services; and waterfront restaurants, serving fresh-from-the-dock Caribbean dishes such as snapper ceviche or lobster pilau with coconut milk, mango, and sweet plantain.
Room to Book:
The Governor's Suite, a two-bedroom suite with more than 2,000 square feet of living space, a full kitchen, and a 40-foot-long panoramic balcony that overlooks the Sir Francis Drake Channel, Great Camanoe, Marina Cay, Beef Island, and Tortola.
Insider Tip:
Be sure to take one of the guided snorkeling trips to nearby Norman Island, where you'll swim with sea turtles and angelfish in the shallow coral reefs before grabbing a seat at the famed Willy T., a floating bar and restaurant that serves conch fritters and chicken roti.
