Musée National des Douanes
La Musée National des Douanes is France’s National Customs Museum. Located along the waterfront in an 18th-century palace at Place de la Bourse, the museum explores the wide-ranging arm of the customs service. Exhibits document the history of taxes, tariffs, and border control, detailing hundreds of years of French economic history. Calculating machines, agent uniforms, smugglers’ weapons, master paintings, and objets précieux (national treasures) are on display, as well.
Insider Tip:
After your visit, head around the corner to Jean Ramet, a popular French bistro known for classic dishes such as foie gras cassoulet.
