Château Palmer
Just off the D2 highway—known as the Route des Châteaux—this 128-acre winery is easily recognizable by its two conical turrets rising behind a wrought-iron railing. Set on a terraced plateau in the Margaux appellation, the winery is housed in an 1856 blond-stone building overlooking the Gironde estuary. The company produces only two labels, made with unusual combinations of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot grapes. Available by appointment only, tours may include a peek at the œnothèque, a wine cache storing vintages dating back to 1875.
