A biennial festival celebrating contemporary art, the Berlin Biennale was established in 1996 under the guidance of Klaus Biesenbach, the founding director of the KW Institute for Contemporary Art. The festival is held in the exhibition facilities of the KW Institute and serves to exhibit contemporary art and to promote and encourage emerging artists. The Biennale hosts a variety of events, including panel discussions, artist talks, and workshops, and each festival’s programming is determined by a panel of guest curators from the art world.
