Things to do in Berkshires

There are many things to do in the Berkshires, whether you are looking for a spa weekend, an inspirational retreat or an outdoor adventure. For art-lovers, a visit in the summer is imperative, so that you can take advantage of the many festivals that crop up when the weather is warm. Try the Williamstown Theater Festival, which draws the likes of Sam Rockwell and Patricia Clarkson, or the Tanglewood music series, which hosts the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Jacob’s Pillow showcases outstanding dance performances, ranging from modern to ballet, at their outdoor stage where the rolling hills becomes the living backdrop to the dancers. For arty things to do in the Berkshires year-round, consider a stop at the MassMoCA, Norman Rockwell Museum or Clark Art Institute.

When it comes to nature sightings, a hike up Mount Greylock or a drive along the scenic Mohawk Trail are some of the most picturesque places in the Northeast. After a chilly hike in the autumn, it’s a great idea to pop into one of the lovely country towns for a hot apple cider or cocoa. Wondering what to do in the Berkshires during the winter? Go skiing or snowshoeing, of course. Many of the hotels have roaring fireplaces that are perfect for afternoons a reading some of the great writers who called the Berkshires home—Herman Melville, Henry James, Edith Wharton, Nathaniel Hawthorne.
