La Calesita
Held Saturday nights on the grounds of a sports club in Nuñez (a Buenos Aires suburb in the northern end of the city) La Calesita is one the city’s most traditional outdoor milongas, a place where tango is being performed. The atmosphere is simple and romantic: trees hung with strings of lights, stars hovering above, and plastic tables and chairs set up around a stone dance floor. The seating is done at your own will. There are no waiters, but a bar serves empanadas and choripan alongside a few drinks.
Insider Tip:
La Calesita, or the Carousel, is also the name of a tango move where the follower is drawn to lean forward balanced on one foot while the leader walks, forwards or backwards, in a tight circle around her.
