Kejia Cai
S.E. Bank of Qian Hai
Beijing, China
“Father of the Nation” Sun Yat-Sen was a member of the “Hakka” people, migratory Han Chinese who speak their own language and maintain their own, unique cultural traditions. Visit this Dongcheng neighborhood restaurant to taste their traditional approach to food. Rock floors, wooden tables, paper lanterns, and weathered brick set a rustic, back-to-basics tone inside this earthy space, designed by local artist. One traditional Hakka dish features beef wrap in lotus leaf; another, called mizhi zhibao luyu, calls for the tender fish to be wrapped in paper and soaksed in a rich prior to serving.
Insider Tip:
Keija is particularly known for its seafood, and the yanju xia (shrimp skewers) are popular with both Chinese and Western guests.
