Wondering where to stay in Beijing? The city’s sprawling size means that where you stay will have a huge impact on the quality of your trip. To explore the city’s rapidly disappearing hutongs, opt for a historical neighborhood like Gulou or Yonghegong. Boutique hotels like The Orchid and the Red Wall Garden Hotel preserve the look and feel of a siheyuan (traditional courtyard residence) while offering modern comfort to their guests.

If you want to be in the center of it all, consider Sanlitun, one of the city’s major shopping hubs and the heart of the expat community. International brands, top restaurants, and luxury hotels like the Opposite House are located there, ready to cater to travelers’ every need.

For business travelers, the Central Business District (CBD), with its glittering skyscrapers and iconic CCTV Tower, is the obvious choice. The many well-appointed hotels in the area include Kerry Hotel Beijing, the St. Regis Beijing, China World Hotel, and China World Summit Wing—home to Atmosphere, the highest bar in the city.

To get away from it all, visitors can also head to Miyun or Huairou to stay at one of the many farmers’ residences along the different sections of the Great Wall. Near Mutianyu, award-winning eco-retreats the Schoolhouse at Mutianyu and its sister hotel, The Brickyard, are part of an old ceramics factory and village houses rejuvenated with salvaged materials.
