Well-known rock venue impresario Li Xuebing (or “Bing Bing”) and Hong Kong gallery owner Zhao Lei combined forces in 2001 to open the Yan Club as an arts center. Since then, 200-plus art galleries have joined Yan in this district now known as “798” and “Dashanzi.” The center has more than 10,000 square feet total, and white columns divide the expansive main gallery/performance space. Two staircases flank the ends of it, and natural light flows in (although the hall is equipped with stage lighting.) Past exhibitions have included Xin Luoting and the 2011 Art Beijing Contemporary Art Fair.
