Staten Island Ferry

Staten Island Ferry

Map
Whitehall St. & State St., Whitehall Ferry Terminal, New York, NY 10004, United States

Runs 24 hours a day, with departures every 15 minutes during peak times and every 30 to 60 minutes during off-peak hours.

The historic ferry service between Manhattan and Staten Island is a fun way to spy on some of the city's most iconic sights for free, any time of day or night. The approximately 50-minute round-trip ride provides unmatched perspectives on Wall Street's high rises and the Statue of Liberty—substitute this "drive-by" for a time-consuming, temper-raising hike to Liberty Island itself (the lines are too long, the views so-so). Outbound, nab a spot on the starboard side for the finest looks at Lady Liberty and the same side on the return trip for enchanting scenes of Brooklyn. During the winter, inside seating removes the chill, but not the one-of-a-kind experience.
