See America through the eyes of the 12 million immigrants that entered through Ellis Island. A highlight of the museum is the building itself, built in 1900 and restored to its original condition. Self-guided audio tours take you through three levels, which include artifacts, photos, videos, and oral histories. Add to the drama of the experience by taking in the play at the Living Theater and uncover your own family's "Ellis Island story" at the Family History Center. An awe-inspiring end to this visit is viewing the Wall of Honor, which includes 70,000 names of Ellis Island immigrants.
Insider Tip:
A special tour narrated by "Marty the Muskrat" is offered for children and is available in five different languages.
