Baltimore was once one of America’s most important port towns, and as such the city may still conjure up images of a somewhat grimy, working-class town, but nothing could be farther from the truth. ‘Charm City’ – or ‘Bawlmer,’ as the locals call it – has evolved into one of Maryland’s most popular tourist destinations, with a vibrant nightlife, trendy shops and restaurants, and plenty of museums, art galleries and theater venues for culture lovers. Nestled in the juncture of Chesapeake Bay, Baltimore boasts a world-class Inner Harbor and a star-studded history. Babe Ruth, Billie Holiday, John Waters and Francis Scott Key, who wrote ‘The Star-Spangled Banner,’ all called Charm City home. Liven up your visit to Baltimore with a dash of culture: a powerful symphony, a dance performance, a choral concert or an intimate jazz combo. If the theater is more your cup of tea, take in a show at one Baltimore’s many community stages or at the historic Hippodrome Theater, which plays host to award-winning Broadway shows. Our Baltimore travel guide will point you to the can’t-miss sights and activities in Charm City.

When To Go to Baltimore
There’s no better time to be in the Mid-Atlantic than the spring, so make your Baltimore travel plans for March through May. The weather is mild, and it will generally be easy to book hotels. However, Baltimore’s festival season ramps up in late May, so if you’re planning to travel to Baltimore during the late spring, try to book your accommodations well in advance. Many tourists prefer to visit Baltimore in the summer months between June and August, when most of the city’s major festivals take place, so book early during peak season – and prepare for hot and humid weather. The winter months can be very chilly, so avoid traveling to Baltimore from December through February – and anytime you travel to Baltimore, be prepared for some rainfall.
