From an unassuming, tin-roofed structure on Manor Road, across from Interstate 35 and the University of Texas at Austin campus, El Chile serves Tex-Mex to a mixed crowd of Austin high rollers and hungry undergraduates. The menu includes a mix of standard Tex-Mex far,e such as chalupas, fajitas, and their popular nachos, alongside traditional Mexican classics such as mole: a chicken dish made with a thick red sauce that includes chiles and cocoa. The décor includes polished concrete floors and earthy indigenous artwork.
Parking near campus is often scarce or requires a campus pass, but the adjacent lots are available after 5 p.m. and on weekends.
