The student union building of the University of Texas at Austin serves as a hub of activity for the more than 50,000 students enrolled in the school, with meeting spaces, a food court, an underground bowling alley, and the Cactus Café, the bar and music venue where artists including Lyle Lovett built their repertoires before making it big. Built in 1933 with a design by French architect Paul Cret, the Texas Union Building is as a convenient base for exploring the campus and “the drag” along Guadalupe Street. It should be noted that the facilities are open to the public.
