Broken Spoke
The Broken Spoke has been around since 1964, when this classic honkytonk was on Austin’s rough-and-tumble outskirts. While strip mall development has changed the neighborhood, the Broken Spoke remains what it was then: a place to tip back a few beers and scoot around the expansive dance floor. If you don’t dance, be prepared to try. If you don’t have a partner, don’t fret: the regulars are outgoing and eager to show visitors a thing or two.

Food is served, and the menu is what you’d expect -- the chicken-fried steak is more than passable. Don’t complain or ask for special orders, lest you be branded a Yankee.
