The Austin Nature & Science Center, located in Zilker Park, has a range of family friendly activities and hands-on exhibits. While special exhibits sometimes require an entrance fee, the center itself is free (although donations are encouraged). The animal exhibits include birds of prey, big cats, and reptiles, many of which have been rescued and are rehabilitating. A shaded dinosaur pit offers an opportunity for children to dig for concrete “bones.” Exhibits are connected by a network of nature trails with fish ponds.
