While names such as Zambesi, Nom*D, Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester, and Trelise Cooper have become the international faces of New Zealand fashion, back in town there are many more design innovators carving their own niche. Miss Crabb, Jimmy D, Eugenie, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Hailwood, Juliette Hogan, Julian Danger, Harman Grubisa, Twenty Seven Names, Andrea Moore, Strangely Normal and World are a snapshot of the designers who have found a following in this small and competitive market. You’ll find some of them in the city, others in the shopping destinations of Ponsonby and Newmarket. The arts scene is sophisticated and prolific, with exhibitions opening most nights of the week. Leading galleries, such as Gow Langsford, Gus Fisher, Tim Melville, Michael Lett, Two Rooms, the publicly funded Artspace, and Melanie Roger, are dotted in and around the city.
