The Grill, Athens

A local landmark for more than three decades, this 1950's-style diner is just up the block from the main entrance to the University of Georgia campus. Illuminated by old-fashioned neon signs, the Grill is decorated with white tiled walls, simple black booths, and glass display cases filled with antique toys and comic books. A jukebox sits in one corner, surrounded by Coca-Cola memorabilia. Open 24/7, the restaurant serves classic diner fare, with specialties including the burgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, and crinkle-cut fries with feta dressing. From midnight until noon, the Grill also serves traditional breakfast fare like pancakes and biscuit sandwiches.
