Things to do in Aspen

Most things to do in Aspen seem to require having a limitless budget, but that’s not always the case—even during ski season. There are many simple pleasures to explore as you decide what to do in Aspen.

You can enjoy some Apres-Ski at J Bar. The tin-ceilinged J Bar at the Hotel Jerome has been serving drinks for more than a century. Specialty cocktails include the Aspen Crud, which dates back to Prohibition, when bartenders would slip bourbon into milkshakes. If you eat here, get the famous half-pound burgers topped with anything from poblano chiles to fried eggs. Go out and browse the Aspen Saturday Market. It’s held off Galena St., which is held every Saturday from June through October, features only goods made (or grown) in Colorado, such as jewelry, art, clothing, produce and even bison meat. You can catch cooking demonstrations and live music, and it’s a great spot for people watching. What to do in Aspen with kids? There are plenty of biking and hiking trails during the warmer seasons, and year-round you can also check out the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies. At the Hallum Lake Nature Preserve, you can see eagle demonstrations, meet turtles, keep an eye out for coyotes or embark on sunset beaver walks.
