Shanahan’s on the Green
Dublin, Dublin 2, Ireland
This upmarket yet relaxing steakhouse is the brainchild of Irish-American talk-radio tycoon John M. Shanahan, who followed his dream of building a temple to his favorite food: Irish beef. The atmosphere here is clubby—with red plush chairs, and chandeliers casting a golden glow overhead—and chef Ryan Bell’s menu is distinctly masculine, revolving mainly around platters groaning with juicy, simply prepared meat. Six steak preparations are offered, from Petit Filet up to a colossal bone-in rib-eye, and the enormous sides (like whipped potatoes and bacon-infused creamed spinach) are the stuff of expense-account legend.
Insider Tip:
If you haven’t reserved a table, ask to be seated in the restaurant’s Oval Office bar. The full menu is served here, amid fun presidential paraphernalia (including a rocking chair that once belonged to JFK).
