A landmarked Scottish estate originally built as a private home in 1834, this country hotel on beautiful Loch Awe is a popular romantic getaway for couples from Glasgow and Edinburgh. The hotel’s name, which means “ferry point” in Gaelic, is a nod to the importance of the lake, which supplies the fresh wild salmon to the property’s award-winning restaurant. Many of the 18 guest rooms—all of which are individually decorated in vibrant shades of pink, red, or blue—enjoy magnificent lake views. Adding to the allure is an in-house whiskey expert who oversees tastings of world-renowned local brands. (The hotel is, after all, just 40 minutes from Oban.) The expansive grounds include a “secret” walled garden, and the property outfits guests for fishing right outside its door.

Room to Book:

Kilchurn: with huge windows overlooking Loch Awe, this airy main-floor room is decorated with bright magenta-upholstered furniture and a king-size four-poster bed.

Insider Tip:

On a clear day, take a small boat to Loch Awe's private island, Eilean a Chomraidh, which is also owned by the hotel. Ask the staff to pack you a lunch.
