Din Tai Fung, Arcadia
Arcadia, CA, 91007, United States
In 2001, Frank Yang expanded his father Bingyi’s revered dumpling house from Taipei to Los Angeles in 2000, anchoring an Arcadia strip mall near legendary Santa Anita Park. Din Tai Fung even spawned a second location, in back, thanks to the popularity of steamed dumplings filled with ingredients like pork and shrimp. They also sell noodle soups, fried rice and rice cake dishes, and steamed buns that are both sweet (black sesame) and savory (pork). The utilitarian space has a glass front, and a window that allows customers to watch dumpling makers roll and fill dough.
Insider Tip:
Line up on Saturday or Sunday before the 10:30 a.m. opening time to ensure one of the 40 orders of special soup dumplings, which come 20 to an order and appear with a bowl of egg drop soup.
