Space. Seclusion. Sophistication. All come at a premium at this 14-room property, which cascades down a hillside over 42 acres on the wild southeast side of the island. A recent renovation at Hotel Le Toiny stripped out the dark woods and colors, leaving in its place an airier, lighter palette; the 13 villas (all one-bedroom) and sole junior suite have luxurious touches like private, heated pools and clawfoot tubs, and practical amenities like kitchenettes and walk-in closets. Other highlights of the renovation: the lobby bar, which rarely got used, was moved outdoors by the main pool, and the boutique made way for a cozy lounge with black-and-white photographs, linen-covered furniture, and mirrored coffee tables. The biggest addition was a private beach club, accessible via a steep access road (don’t worry, hotel staff will do the driving). Also on site is a small cocktail bar and shop—both set in stone homes that date to the 1800s—and plenty of loungers spaced just so for maximum privacy.
