Throughout history, Ambergris Caye has been Belize’s main trade hub, where fish, coconuts and chicle (natural gum from trees) were exported to the rest of the world. Today, Belize’s largest island has also become its most popular tourist destination, thanks to its premium diving sites, birding opportunities and water sports offerings. San Pedro Town is one of the greatest highlights when you visit Ambergris Caye. The charming beachside town is the island’s largest settlement and is populated by some of the friendliest folks in Central America. Travel to Ambergris Caye is perfect for water sports fans and beach lovers, but there’s much to like on dry land as well. The island’s lively music scene provides excellent nighttime entertainment, and there are some ancient Mayan sites that are well worth exploring. Our Ambergris Caye travel guide includes a long list of island must-dos.

When to Go to Ambergris Caye

Ambergris Caye travel is ideal during the winter and all the way through April, when temperatures remain in the 80s, and the skies are rain-free. Temperatures increase and so does the humidity from late April to October, which brings showers to the region but keeps some of the crowds away.
