Things to do in Agra + Uttar Pradesh

Topping your list of things to do in Agra is the Taj Mahal, of course. But don't miss some of these other marvelous things to do in Agra, many of which will give you a lesson in history, colorfully telling the story of the Mughal empire:
Fatehpurh Sikri: This red sandstone ghost city was built in the late 16th century by the emperor Akbar to pay tribute to the Sufi saint Salim Chisti.
Akbar's Tomb: If you want your tomb done right, you have to do it yourself - legend has it that the emperor designed his own tomb, a wonder of geometric patterning.
Fort Agra: Akbar also built this massive fort, located along the Yamuna River, in 1565, and it was later expanded to become a palace. It even stood in as a default prison for the emperor after his son forcibly took control of the throne.
Mehtab Bagh: For another great view of the Taj Mahal, visit this lovely park, built by Emperor Babur on the east bank of the Yamuna.
Etmad-ud-Daulah's Tomb: This beautiful, but relatively small, tomb was built for the father of the empress Nur Jahan. For architecture buffs, it's an early example of the Persian-style marble inlay that would blossom with the construction of the Taj Mahal.

A 99,000-square-foot Mughal fantasy with mother-of-pearl–inlaid floors, fruit-tree–filled gardens, and traditional ayurvedic offerings.
