Surrounding the town of Kamuela on the Big Island, this working cattle ranch dates back to 1847, when John Palmer Parker purchased just two acres of land. Today, the ranch spans thousands of acres and accommodates more than 30,000 Angus and Charolais cows, making it one of the largest ranches in the country. A local company, Cowboys of Hawaii, provides horseback riding tours of the ranch, during which paniolo (cowboys) lead participants across rolling hills, through old stone corrals, and to the rodeo arena, all set against the backdrop of the Mauna Kea volcano. Hunting excursions are available, as well.
