American and US Airways Merger Takes Flight

Next month, American Airlines and US Airways will join together, forming the world’s largest airline, thanks to an agreement with the Justice Department reached on Tuesday morning.

In the hopes of increasing competition, the merger will require the two airlines to divest well over a hundred takeoff and landing slots across the country. For travelers, this will mean easy access to a massive network of flights reaching 336 destinations, including international hotspots and a wider variety of smaller domestic cities.

Unfortunately, the merger also means passengers should expect to see a substantial hike in airfare after the deal closes, from this and other airlines across the country.
