New Destination Club G2G to Donate $1 Billion to Charity

Getaway 2 Give

As I reported earlier, the UN World Tourism Organization has a new campaign encouraging international tourists to travel more responsibly. There are endless options, ranging from staying at locally-owned hotels to traveling by train and taking part in voluntourism. Then there’s newcomer destination company The Giving Plan. Billing itself as the world’s first philanthropic vacation club, its Getaway 2 Give Collection is aiming to donate $1 billion to charities every ten years.

So, how does that work?

Unlike most destination clubs, which charge new members upwards of $150,000, Giving Plan charges $15,000, with half of that going directly to a charity of the member’s choosing.

Of course, individuals aren’t joining the G2G Collection just for charity (otherwise they’d simply make a $7,500 donation to their favorite cause). Instead, they’re becoming members to gain access to some of the world’s most exclusive properties at discounted rates.

The G2G Collection includes private vacation homes and villas, luxury hotels, crewed yachts, and customized voluntours around the world. Some highlights include T+L 500 Hotels The Pierre in New York and the Hotel Madeline in Telluride, a ski-in-ski-out villa in Deer Valley, Salvatore Ferragamo’s Castiglion del Bosco estate in Tuscany, and yachting opportunities in Greece, Turkey, the Canary Islands, and throughout the Caribbean. Furthermore, a portion of members’ (significantly reduced) nightly rates goes to their chosen charity.

Co-founder Adam Capes, a “believer in doing well by doing good,” sees the G2G Collection as an opportunity for “individuals to have great vacation experiences and also give back to the world.” Giving Plan Members, he states, will “play it forward.”
