We’re wrapping up our May food issue here at Travel + Leisure, and the delectable stories we’ve dished up (don’t read this one on an empty stomach, you just may eat the pictures) simply reaffirmed to me how vital a component dining is to a memorable travel experience. I, for one, explore a locale with both my eyes and my stomach. So, intrepid gastronaut that I am, on my first trip to Vancouver recently I saw all the sights (don’t miss the random Jimi Hendrix shrine tucked into the outskirts of Chinatown, or, if you have children, the wonderful Kids Market on Granville Island) while still squeezing in meals that ran the gamut from high-end to hole-in-the-wall, each worth writing home about. So let’s pretend you all are “home,” and here goes my paean.
In an era of mass-produced gadgets, there is a certain pride in knowing that a single Swiss artisan produced your watch by hand. Case in point: the 18-karat white-gold and alligator Cartier Calibre Multiple Time Zone. With the ability to track the time in 24 cities and a face that displays the hour in two places at once, this is the ultimate accessory for jet-setters. Price upon request.
I've long been a fan of Amrita Singh's glittering jewelry, and I'm hardly the only one—Jennifer Lopez, Katie Homes, and Anne Hathaway are devotees of her ornate necklaces and gem-studded bangles. So when I heard Singh was launching a new home collection with an exclusive party at a penthouse suite at the Trump Plaza, I was intrigued. Would Singh's aesthetic translate into blinged-out interior décor?

Ladies, I have found it. Thousands of miles and hundreds of destinations later, I've found the dress that works on every single body type, and more importantly, travels effortlessly and elegantly. It's the Karina dress, available in 15 styles. You can stomp on the dress, crumple it up, and it will still look smooth and polished when you slip it on. Versatile and appropriate, I wear the dresses for both weekend getaways and work trips.
I once was a stubborn holdout on smartphones but now I’m a zealous convert. On a recent trip out of the country and out of my phone’s data network, I felt a little dazed and out of sorts without my constant handheld companion. I confess that I used some free, unsecured WiFi during the trip. While I was vigilant about the type of info I was sending and receiving, for all I knew, my smartphone (and passwords and bank info and all manner of personal data) could have been accessed during those brief, careful sessions. And when I read this chilling cybercrime report from Norton, I vowed to change my sloppy smartphone habits.
