Google Cultural Institute has added a street art travel treasure hunt to its online gallery of cultural projects that already includes art museums, world wonders, and historic monuments.

Street Arttraverses the globe from Sasketchawan to Buenos Aires, Stockholm, Sydney and Mongolia, cataloging more than 5000 murals and projects that visitors can step right up to.

Visitors to the site can “walk through” contemporary projects as well as view gone but not forgotten pieces like New York’s 5Pointz and Paris’s Tour 13, creating an interactive catalogue of existing work and a continually generating archive  that preserves soon-to-disappear pieces.

Navigating through Street Art means a front row look projects and nutshell histories of street art, varying scenes and artists, with a list that reads a who’s who of street art with names from the present and past like JR, Axel Void, Herbert Baglione, Futura 2000, Shepard Fairey, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, and ROA.

Google has partnered with museums and institutions as well as encouraging user contribution to create its virtual street art museum, so the objective is to get out, shoot and upload, the harder to find, the better!
