Vail Resorts Gets Even More Epic

Bringing social media to the skiing experience is just one of the ways Vail Resorts has stayed ahead of the curve. And they did it in dramatic fashion, with EpicMix, their app that tracks vertical feet and awards digital pins based on RF-enabled ski passes. Up to now, though, the all-important photography aspect has been missing from EpicMix. No longer.

Sure, you can snap smartphone pics, upload them to your account, and share them on Facebook and Twitter. But Vail Resorts has given the photo experience a couple unique twists.

First, they’ve made the pro photographers part of the program. You know those guys who take your pic at the top of the mountain and charge about a million dollars for it? Well now they’ll upload that pic to your account. For free. Really. You can even share it. Also free. Of course, you can still spend money on these pics, but you only pay for the hi-res version. The other cool new improvement? Creating collages from your photos, vertical feet, and pins.

And everyone will now have access to EpicMix, whether they participate or not; the ski company is essentially getting rid of paper tickets. That’s great news—we could never get the adhesive backing to align anyway.

And because we also love a good sweepstakes, we’ll let you know: buy an Epic Pass by this Sunday, September 25, and you’ll be entered to win an Epic Pass for the rest of your life. Free skiing forever? That’s something to tweet about.
