NYC Businesses Celebrate Gay Marriage With Fab Deals
The effects from the recent legalizing of gay marriage in New York are already starting to take shape. In peparation for the day legal ceremonies will finally be able to be performed—July 24—Mayor Bloomberg is preparing to launch a new campaign called "NYC I Do," which will seek to bring in gay tourists looking to get hitched. What does that mean for the city? About $400 million in estimated revenue over the next three years, just from gay marriage–related spending!
To boot, many of the NYC’s businesses have quickly shown their support for the historic decision, and are celebrating by offering special discounts for the many couples that have been patiently waiting for their time to come. Here are just a few I was able to find. (Without a doubt, more will surface as July 24 nears.) Happy Pride!
• Book any of the W Hotels properties in NYC and you can take advantage of their Right to Unite package. What does the package get you? One night’s stay in one of their suites; car service to and from City Hall, to get all that paperwork done; use of a Flip Camera to capture the ceremony; champagne and a custom wedding cake; suit press/shoe shine or a dress steaming; and, if you book either the W New York or W Times Square, you’ll receive two free nights at the W Vieques to help kick off your honeymoon. (Package rates start at $1,019; available July 1 through December 31, 2011.)
• The Skylight Group, a company that owns and operates three chic events spaces throughout the city, tweeted that in honor of the law's passing, it will be offering a full 20% off all wedding ceremonies for the rest of the year.
• Red Hook Lobster Pound, where I spend a significant portion of my salary on fresh lobster rolls, took to Twitter and declared a 10% discount on all same sex wedding catering. Just book by August 1, and you and yours can enjoy a succulent crustacean meal post nuptials.
• Robicelli’s, master creators of cupcakes, is offering a 10% discount on same sex wedding cupcakes through the end of September. To boot, 10% of these sales will be donated to the Ali Forney Center, which helps homeless LGBT youth get back on their feet.
