Luxe Lobby Loot: The New Vending Machine at Hudson Hotel
A paperback copy of Catcher in the Rye. A black sequin miniskirt by Haute Hippie. A retro Ouija board. A black-on-black Range Rover for the day. Your portrait shot by renowned photographer Ben Watts...
The newest lobby fixture in Manhattan's Hudson Hotel is your one-stop shop for all of the above. Semi-Automatic, a glowing green, touch-screen vending machine that opened for business last week, stocks a revolving selection of stylishly curated items broken down into five categories: Basics, Media, Fashion, Beauty, and GoFish.
Expect to find quite a range of prices—from the somewhat practical to the borderline-embarassingly luxe. Think: $5 breath mints from lingerie purveyor Kiki de Montparnasse; $4,500 for a two-night penthouse package at Ames, Morgans Hotel Group’s newest hotel in Boston; and $10,000 for a week in a Ferrari 599 GTB.
The 24-hour machine will also debut an original t-shirt, designed by Chrissie Miller of hot downtown label Sophomore exclusively for the hotel—the first in a series of new artist t-shirts created for Morgans Hotel Group. The Hudson is the second Morgans property to adopt this über-modern take on the gift shop: The Mondrian in South Beach holds the pioneer machine, with Miami-appropriate items like bikinis and Bentleys.
