Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah: 3 New Ziplines Offer Extreme Thrills

Remember that time I said I would never go bungee jumping or even entertain the notion of ever going on any of these extreme rides? But then I went ahead and threw a curve ball by saying I wouldn't even hesitate to swim at the edge of Victoria Falls? Well, here's another one of those kinda sorta crazy things I'd love to try: Ziplining.

Opened yesterday, San Francisco residents (and visitors!) can temporarily enjoy a 600 ft. zipline ride above Justin Herman Plaza. Set up by The British Columbia Experience, the idea is to give folks an experience similar to the zipline ride that was open to the public at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. For the first few days, artist Kurt Wenner will be constructing a 3D art installation directly below the zipline, to really help zippers feel like they're in B.C. (Though I think the sweeping views of the Bay Bridge and San Francisco Bay would probably be the view I'd take advantage of!) Guests will also have tons of opportunities to learn more about B.C. and what it has to offer.

This zipline will be open to the public until April 18. Oh, and did I mention? It's free!

Not to be outdone, SoCal's Catalina Island will be opening a brand new zipline tour on April 15. This one might be a little harder for me to stomach. Why? Its five legs total a whopping 3,100 feet in length. Then again, the views just might be able to push me over the edge. Literally.

Tours start at $92.50, but check the official website for packages to save some coin.

Jump to Wisconsin, yet another zipline was recently opened at the Wilderness Hotel and Golf Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Also a 5-tiered zip—the longest is a whopping 914 feet!—you can book this tour for $65 (or $45 if you're a hotel guest).

Three new ziplines in one month. Is that a trend I smell?
