Getting around the Amalfi Coast by car
Avoid driving the coast yourself. Navigating the narrow roads with steep drop-offs is nerve-racking and slow going, and parking is difficult and pricey. Most of the ride is spent either white-knuckling the steering wheel or waiting for a long line of cars to back up and allow oncoming buses to negotiate tight bends. Buses and ferries are a frequent and convenient alternative.
Insider Tip: If you absolutely must drive, at least arrange to pick up your rental car in Sorrento, not Naples (a traffic mess to avoid at all costs).
