Getting to the Amalfi Coast by train
The major train lines (contact Trenitalia) serve Naples, where you have to switch to the private Circumvesuviana commuter line to Sorrento. The connection is a bit tricky: in the Naples train station, head toward the main exit to find the staircase down to the subterranean Circumvesuviana station. Buy your ticket to Sorrento at the windows halfway down the left side of the underground corridor. From the corridor, stairs lead to the platforms.
Insider Tip: Various commuter lines share each platform; be sure the train you are getting on is Sorrento-bound. Also beware the notorious pickpockets both in the Naples station and onboard the tourist-packed Circumvesuviana line.
