When to go to D.C.
Spring and fall are best. The blossoming of the cherry trees in March and April (there are thousands of them throughout the city) is a justly famous draw. If you can handle the heat, the July 4th celebrations on the Mall are worth a little sweat; there’s a terrific annual parade and even more terrific fireworks.
