Muni buses in San Francisco

Although you may want to rent a car for day trips outside central SF, you can get by without one downtown—the Muni bus system, a mix of diesel, electric, and new hybrid vehicles, covers the territory well. A single ride costs $1.50, a week’s pass is $15, and a seven-day Muni Passport, geared toward tourists, costs $24 and covers all travel on buses, light rail, and cable cars (www.sfmuni.com).
