Getting to Portland by air

Air travelers reach the city via one of the nation’s most efficient and hassle-free facilities, Portland International Airport, which is 12 miles northeast of downtown and has nonstop flights to most major U.S. cities as well as Canada, Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands. Frequent shuttle service to downtown hotels costs $14 each way (Blue Star is one of the better shuttle operators: 503-249-1837; www.bluestarbus.com). There’s also convenient service on the city’s MAX light-rail; the trip from the airport downtown costs $2.30 and takes about 45 minutes. Taxi fare downtown costs about $30 to $35.
