Driving and car rentals on Nantucket

If you’re staying outside Nantucket Town, or if you want to explore the lesser-traveled parts of the island, you’ll need to rent a car. If you’re arriving by air, you can pick up a rental from Hertz or from a local outfit, Nantucket Rent-a-Car (www.nantucketislandrentacar.com), at the airport. If you’re arriving by ferry, the best bet is to rent from Affordable Rentals (www.affrentals.com), just a quick walk from the ferry wharves. Regardless of who you rent with, be sure to get a Jeep or other 4x4 if you plan to drive to the remote south-coast beaches or to Great Point.
