Light rail in Minneapolis
In this eco-conscious city, light rail is a clean, efficient, and inexpensive option if you don’t mind walking a few blocks from stops. Unfortunately, it’s only available in Minneapolis and Bloomington, along one central—though well-placed—line. Buy your tickets before boarding the train; you can’t buy them on board and you will be fined $190 if caught without one. The regular fare is $2 during rush hour and $1.50 at all other times, but it’s only 50 cents if you stay within the four stops of downtown Minneapolis. Even better: you can ride light rail as much as you want, getting on and off as you please within 2.5 hours from the time you bought your ticket (www.metrotransit.org/rail).
